Calculation Boer Percentages

A fullblood is 100% Boer. No other breed is involved. See Full South African? for a definition of this fullblood term.
A fullblood buck bred to a brush goat or a Kiko or Spanish (or any other breed) produces a 1/2 blood – or 50% kid (1/2 Boer and 1/2 something else).
If that 50% (1/2) doe is then bred to a fullblood buck, the offspring is 75% (3/4). (You get this by adding 100% plus 50% then dividing the 150 by 2.)
If you breed the 75% doe to a fullblood buck, the offspring is 7/8 Boer or 87.5%.
An 87.5% doe bred to a fullblood buck produces a 15/16 or 93.75%.
A 93.75% doe bred to a fullblood buck produces a 31/32 or 96.875% kid
A 96.875% doe bred to a fullblood buck produces a 63/64 or 98.4375 % kid
A 98.4 % doe bred to a fullblood buck produces a 127/128 or 99.2% kid.
A 99.2% doe bred to a fullblood buck produces a 255/256 or 99.6% kid.

You can never get to 100% when you start with less than 100% - the best you can ever reach would be 99.999%.

A doe is considered a purebred if she is 15/16 (93.75%) or better.

A buck is considered a purebred if he is 31/32 (96.875%).

When showing in sanctioned shows (i.e., ABGA, USBGA, or IBGA), there is no distinction between purebreds and fullbloods as far as classes go. Percentage does/doelings (anything less than 15/16 or 94%) are shown in their own classes apart from fullblood/ purebreds. Only fullblood or purebred bucks/ bucklings are allowed to be shown in the sanctioned shows. Most 4-H shows don’t allow bucks at all and only show wethers and doelings.

If you register a buck that is less than 31/32 (and the Associations will gladly accept your $7 to do so), the registration papers have (IBGA at any rate) "OFFSPRING NOT SUBJECT TO REGISTRATION." We registered one just to see.
